I was watching an old Community episode in which Chevy Chase’s character describes how he was born fighting, with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, both arms, and an ankle, claiming that he’s never been lucky while he continues to do what he can to live fully. In the show, he is a rich tycoon, owner of a moist towelette company. He is also a bumbling, racist, misogynistic idiot for most of the show. But certainly one with a good heart.
The message of Chevy’s character is to take ownership of life no matter what has happened and no matter who is in your face. We can’t sit back and let people and situation dictate our path. And we certainly shouldn’t be using them as excuses. Decide what you want and where you want to be and figure out a way to make it happen. It’s not luck that’ll get you there. It’s you. 😉
