Radical Self-Reliance
21 March 2024Self love is the only love
2 April 2024Buddha once said, “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”
This powerful quote reminds us that we are the protagonists of our own lives, and ultimately, we are responsible for our own happiness and fulfilment. While we may seek love, approval, validation, and security from others, the truth is that everything we need is already within us. By embracing self-reliance and taking responsibility for our own journey, we can become the heroes of our own stories and create a life of meaning and purpose.
Taking Responsibility for Your Journey
The first step in becoming your own hero is to take responsibility for your journey. This means recognizing that you have the power to shape your own destiny and create the life you want.
Every human travels a fairly exclusive path from their birth to their death. It is exceptionally rare that you would find two people who have lived the exact same lives with the exact same perspectives. Every single person is different, and every single one of us has lived and continues to live a life that is relatively unique. Test it out: converse with one of your soulmates and check how many of your experiences or perspectives are identical. Even those that are similar will not be exactly the same.
Sure, you may have even experienced the exact same situations, but you see the world differently however slight, and you have different desires, and that means that you both have different paths on this life journey, even when you are physically journeying together. As you accept this fact, you can let go the idea that anyone else could possibly tell you the best way to live your life in order to realise your dreams. Everyone is figuring out their own paths. You must as well.
While external circumstances may influence your path, ultimately, you are in control of your actions, attitudes, and responses. Every decision you make takes you closer or further from your overall dream life. By taking ownership of your choices and their consequences, you can cultivate a sense of agency and empowerment that will serve you well on your journey.
Seeking Inner Wisdom
As Buddha said, “Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.”
This means that the answers to your most pressing questions and the solutions to your greatest challenges lie within your own heart and mind. You are far more capable than you’ve been led to realise. Every single one of us has an amazing intuition. It’s a little rough in our youth but the more we use it the better we get at hearing and understanding our individual intuition.
By cultivating a practice of self-reflection and introspection, you can develop your connection to your intuition. Tap into your inner wisdom and find the guidance that you need to move forward. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, still your mind, and calm your heart. And then feel for the answers you seek. You may hear words but most likely you will feel the answers come. You will have a knowing without knowing where the knowing came from. It’s often not logical seeming, but only because you don’t have all the information.
Whether through meditation, journaling, or simply spending time in nature, make time to connect with your inner voice and listen to its wisdom. You will come to realise that you can find any answers you seek by trusting that those answers will come to you with ease.
Finding Fulfilment from Within
While it’s natural to seek love, approval, and validation from others, the truth is that these things cannot be the source of our happiness and fulfilment. Rather, we must develop these feelings within ourselves. By cultivating self-love, self-acceptance, and self-validation, we can create a sense of inner fulfilment that is not dependent on external circumstances or other people. This doesn’t mean we should reject the love and support of others, but rather that we should see it as a bonus, not a necessity.
When we approach life fulfilled, it means we aren’t seeking something to fill a longing within us. We know through observation if not experience that there is nothing in the physical world that can permanently satisfy that deep longing. That level of meaningful satisfaction comes from an inner security, which comes from self-work and healing our traumas, and being able to access the inner love that we had access to as babies.
The better our connection to love, the more secure we will feel. Find ways to develop and amplify the feeling of love in your life, and you will have less emotional holes that crave filling.
Embracing Self-Reliance
Ultimately, becoming your own hero means embracing self-reliance and recognizing that you are capable of handling whatever life throws your way. While it’s important to seek support and guidance from others when needed, it’s equally important to trust your own abilities and instincts. By cultivating self-reliance, you can build resilience, confidence, and a sense of inner strength that will serve you well on your journey.
This is where you really become your own saviour. By taking action towards achieving your dream life, one dream at a time, you save yourself from a life on mundanity. Nobody else is coming to save you in this way. Nobody is going to rescue you from the evil corporations and destroyers of worlds. Nobody is going to take pity on you and magically give you access to all the resources you could ever want. Well, maybe somebody will, but the chances are pretty slim. Something like 1 in 8 billion.
As Buddha said, “No one saves us but ourselves.”
This powerful maxim that echoes through the ages, urges us to recognize our innate ability to shape our destiny. When we take ownership of our journey, we access the power and confidence to walk our paths with purpose. This fundamental principle challenges us to tap into our inner wisdom, a source of guidance that comes from a place of deep self-awareness, to make conscious decisions aligned with our true essence and desires. On a more pragmatic level, by looking within ourselves and analysing our trajectory and motivations, we can uncover the driving forces behind our decisions, desires, and aspirations.
Additionally, seeking fulfilment from within encourages us to cultivate a sense of self-reliance and resilience. When we acknowledge that external sources cannot provide lasting happiness, we begin to nurture a deep-rooted sense of inner strength and self-sufficiency, in turn becoming more capable of navigating life’s challenges and savouring its victories.
By taking responsibility for our own journey, seeking inner wisdom, finding fulfilment from within, and embracing self-reliance, we can become the heroes of our own stories and create a life of meaning and purpose. So, take a deep breath, look within, and trust that you have everything you need to forge your unique path is already within you. The strength, resilience, and wisdom required for this journey are yours to access and cultivate. And so, we become the architects of our own destiny, building a life of profound meaning and purpose, centred around our true essence.
The world is a playground, laden with opportunities to experience pretty much whatever we want to experience.
